About Powered Prosthetic Knee

This prosthetic knee is powered, regenerates electric power when possible, and will incorporate an advanced control algorithm to allow for dynamic maneuvers. This prosthetic knee not only restores natural walking gait, comfort, and gait symmetry, but also reduces hip effort. Additionally, powered assistance is provided for stair climbing increasing freedom of mobility never before achieved in such a lightweight, compact and remarkably quiet prosthesis.

Our development has led to an Alpha and Beta prototypes. The Beta Prototype was completed in early 2008. Click here for a video clip of the Alpha prototype where supplementary laboratory instrumentation on the Alpha version is covered to demonstrate the compactness of the final version.
